Description

First post in what seems like forever! This here is the Elephant Trunk Nebula, because it kinda sorta looks like, well, an elephant trunk. If you squint. And were on hallucinogens. Anyway, it’s located about 2,400 light years away, in the constellation Cepheus. The piece of the nebula at the top is the dark, dense globule called IC 1396A. The bright rim is the surface of the dense cloud that is being illuminated and ionized by a very bright, massive star (HD 206267) that is just to the east of IC 1396A. I processed it to remove all the stars because it helps to see the nebulosity better. Also it makes for a prettier picture, at least I think.
