Description

M51, also known as the Whirlpool Galaxy, is located about 30 million light years away in the constellation Canes Venatici. It was the first galaxy to be designated a spiral galaxy and is interacting with a smaller galaxy NGC 5195.

I'm really pushing my small refractor to its limit here in trying to eke out some sort of detail...I've cropped in as much as I dare! I've also included the widefield original image as one of the supplementary images to give an idea of the original field of view.

Thanks for looking!
