Description

The Cygnus Wall, part of NGC 7000, the North America Nebula.  The palette is SHO, with RGB stars.

There's a little red blob at the top, right of centre. At first, I thought it was bad data or a processing flaw. It turns out it is a variable nebula around star V2493 Cygni (HBC 722). The star flared up in brightness from mag 18 to 13, in 2010, and is still bright, illuminating the nebula. The red colour indicates that the emissions are bright at the Sii wavelength.

Title: Cygnus Wall (Hubble Palette)

Description: That first version was straight SHO: Red = S, Green=H, Blue = O. Not exactly subtle. This is a more conventional Hubble Palette, which is kind of SHO-ish, but more complex than that.
