Description

SH2-115 is a large emission nebula in Cygnus a couple of degrees away from the bright star Deneb.  Also in this image is Abell 71 (also known as SH2-116, and PK084+4.1).

This is the 10th and final image resulting from the trove of data collected during the incredible stretch of weather we just had in western NY November 5-8, 2021.  SUddenly I have to wait for clear weather again - something that might not come for me until March!

This image was shot with my William Optics 132mm Telescope Platform with the IOptron CEM60 and the ASI1600MM-Pro Camera. with hours of narrowband data.  The image is rendered in the Hubble Palette.

Of course, this image could have benefitted from more time on the target, but that is not likely to happen with our weather and cloudy winter skies!  So we do the best we can with the data we have!

The story of the image and its processing can be seen on my website at:

Thanks for looking and let me know if you have any questions!

Pat

Description: There seemed to be a "bubblewrap" pattern in the first edit of my image. I used MLT to extract various layers and found that in layer 7 (at the 64-pixel scale size) the pattern was most evident. So I used MLT to apply some NR to the 7th layer exclusively and this removed a lot of the pattern without impacting the overall sharpness of the image. I am not sure where the medium-scale pattern came from but I suspect it is related to the use of multiple NR methods at various phases of processing.
