The Cigar Galaxy is such and amazing galaxy and close to one of my Most favorites.

Tekkie stuffs;

Telescope: Explorer scientific ES127mm FCD-100

Camera: ASI183mm-pro

Filters: Astrodon E series and 5nm Ha

Mount: Atlas EQ6-R

Guiding camera: 290 mini with ZWO OAG

L RGB Ha: L 55@ 300s RGB 11:12:11 at 180s then 36 @300s Ha

Total integration time: 557 total min of integration time 10 hours

Seeing/ environment: 2-3

Bortle Class: Class 5/6 Backyard~ Central Indiana

Dates of acquisition:April 21st and 26th 2020

processing: considerations. MULTIPLE nights with good alignment (2 degree error allowed in SGP) flat and dark calibration

5 master files

Calibrated All four nights simultaneously one night had bad flats so there's a heavier crop duty vignetting

DBE On each individual channel and then after combining

RGB combine, DBE

RGB workflow~PCC; MLT with 2 iterations 5/.85, 3.5/.75, 3/.5, 2/.25 (pretty heavy NR done); HT; 10% bg and SCNR

Lum workflow~decon with autopsf 80 iterations 5 layers; MLT fairly heavy like the RGB but a slightly stronger protection mask over the brighter structures.

LRGB combine: Bg at 10%;

TGDVN; then HT for extra blacks

Curves with Lum mask and galaxy masks ~ masking for slight sat boost

Masking for cores

MLT for sharpening.

Specialized masking and processing for Ha and pixel math

Morph to reduce the stars just a bit and ICC to end.

PS to correct a weird star

Clear Skies.

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
