Description

Mercury and Jupiter were in conjunction recently and after some FOV simulation I realised that my Canon EOS 5D mkII DSLR would pick up both planets in the same frame at the Prime Focus of the C11.

For the wide field image I made a single 1min 30 sec capture at 25 fps using EOS_movrec. I then used the 5X zoom feature of the software to make another capture of the same duration of Jupiter. I processed this capture and inserted the resultant image into the wide field image. This brought out the planet's banding quite nicely.

If you look carefully you can still see stars despite the morning light.

To me it is amazing to think that in this image we are looking past Mercury, which it is close to its greatest elongation, where the Earth-Sun_Mercury angle is close to 90 degrees, and on to Jupiter, which is almost on the other side of the Sun from Earth.

Not the most spectacular image, but I love to have a record of these conjunctions. I hope you enjoy it.
