Description

Abell 66 is a rarely-imaged low surface brightness planetary nebula about 1,800 light years away in Sagittarius.
It is estimated to be 2.2 light years across. It is challenging to image from Europe because it is very low down and only visible above the horizon for a very short period each night. It was first catalogued by George Abell in 1955.
