NGC5566 area in Virgo. Estimated distance is roughly 20 Mpc.

This image was done testing RGB capture binned 2x2 with the ASI2600MM camera. Knowing CMOS imaging sensors do not feature HW binning in the sensor array, I wanted to try the binning up front at image capture. The resulting output files were 1/4 the size at 13MB of 1x1. In theory, the result should be the same as if captured at 1x1 then resampled by 2 down to 1/4 the pixel array size. The effective pixel scale is ~ 0.93 with the idk10 focal length at 1670 MM.

It still looks to me like it needs about twice as much data on good seeing nights to bring out more of the faint detail and sharpen things up. Also not sure the Red blended that well with Green and Blue. May have been due to background brightness being higher when Red was collected.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.

Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection.
