Description

Discovered by ATLAS on 21 April, I took this image of the super bright type 1 supernova (now mag 12) - I thought this was 'my' first, but actually captured SN2011dh (by accident) in one of my first DSI IC images of M51.

Nowadays 'discovery' is a mute point, with the plethora of robotic sky surveys, but all credit to the people who identify and share these. I had no idea that there were so many supernovae recorded, or so frequently [Ref www.rochesterastronomy.org].

There is a good article on this and another SN2020jfo in M61 in Virgo (on my next observing list) here https://skyandtelescope.org/astronomy-news/supernovae-light-up-m61-ngc-3643/
