Description

Hello everyone,

First of all : the final version is croped to keep a reasonable size, please click on the original full version here, otherwise you will miss the image :

I am quite proud to share this version of NGC 205 (M 110), completely reprocessed from the beginning. The first version is here : https://astrob.in/v17o9v/0/

Since then, this image has been the subject of dozens of hours of work and discussions with the C2PU team and Serge Brunier who produced the data. This is not a tuned version, but a complete new job.

Serge sent me all the images and DOFs on a USB key to make a 32-bit stack with drizzle. This leads to a 60 MP image, at 0,25 arcsec. I also applied a sort on the 12 hours of luminance to keep the best 7 hours (fwhm and roundness). The color layers have also been optimized between the best fwhm and a good SNR. The result is a 1,2" fwhm on the final stack before processing !

We thought the first version could be even better, and stand as one of the best images ever taken from the ground (professional or amateur) of this galaxy.

IMHO it is !

The number of resolved stars is facinating. It looks like the milkyway, but extragalactic ! At the bottom left, the suburbs of M31. I particularly like the warm colors of the magnitude 22 stars of NGC 205 and the blue of those of M31. That was not easy to render correctly.

Enjoy, a million stars up to magnitude 25.

Image slightly reduced after drizzle to 8000 pixels. Clear skies.
