Description

Markarian's Chain

This chain of galaxies in the Virgo Cluster contains Messier Objects M84 and M86, originally discovered by Charles Messier in 1781. In the 1960's Benjamin Markarian, an Armenian astrophysicist, discovered this group was all traveling with common motion.

Images taken by a QSI683-wsg8 camera with LRGB filters and a Takahashi FSQ-106 scope on a Paramount MyT from Deep Sky West's dark sky site in New Mexico. Processed with PixInsight 1.8.8-5.
