Description

Abell 78
PK 081-14.1
ACO 78
ARO 174

Abell 78 is a Planetary Nebula located in the Constellation Cygnus roughly 5000 LY from Earth. The visible blue-green glow of loops and filaments in the nebula's central region corresponds to emission from doubly ionized oxygen atoms, surrounded by a strong red halo emission from ionized hydrogen and an inner elliptical ring that is mostly made of helium.
