Description

Since 8000 years ago, a new star began to shine in the sky just south of the Swan constellation. Imagine the astonished faces of human beings back then who thought that the sky was immutable. Today we can see the trail that that supernova left us in what is known as The Veil Nebula. This nebula complex extends about 3 degrees in diameter and the part that I show you is the brightest and includes NGC 6992 and 6995. It highlights the intricate and filamentary shape of the nebula, in which we can appreciate its two main colors, red due to ionized hydrogen and turquoise blue that comes from doubly ionized oxygen. Its beauty well deserves that we observe it in maximum resolution to appreciate all its details.
