Description

This faint object, the 40th entry in the Abell Collection, is a planetary nebula is located 13,000 light years away in the constellation of Ophiuchus at a declination of -21 degrees.  It is a magnitude 18 PN which spans 35 arc-seconds in our apparent view.  This corresponds to the typical PN diameter of 2 light years.

The progenitor star is visible as the light blue star at the center.  Both OIII and HII are present throughout the nebula, but the OIII is a much stronger signal.  This elliptically shaped nebula has a thick outer rim.
