Description

NGC4236 / Caldwell 3

An unnamed barred spiral galaxy and a member of the M81 Group.

Who am I kidding, I'm going to absolutely do it again

As you may have figured out from the above, this one was a real challenge! I've been sitting on this data for months and been through many iterations of "final" images that I've never quite been happy with - in the end I decided to just take one final stab at it and just upload the result. I might revisit next year and add a bit more data, but for now it's .... done?

Something I do need to take away from this (and something I might try again at a later date in a revision perhaps) is the better use of masks. Owing to having to push the image so hard to get the faint extremities of the main galaxy visible, I've rather made a mess of a number of the background objects in the process. In the future I need to do a better job of masking these out separately I think.
