Description

I've been interested in this region of Cygnus since last year, but never got a chance to image it because the weather was so awful last summer.  I'm surprised it is not imaged more often; Nico Carver has taken some really nice images of it but not many other people.  I plan to incorporate RGB data into this and possibly some OIII, but that will be tough because my location is so light-polluted.

This was also a chance for me to test out my new Astronomik 12nm MaxFR filter.  I'm very impressed!  The data looks just as good as my old Astrodon 3nm Ha filter, even with a moon in the sky and the severe light pollution of Central New Jersey.

This was also my second time using my new Rokinon 135 lens.  There is some off-axis coma, but not enough for me to care much.  The on-axis stars are not perfect either.  Although I'd like better on-axis stars, I think this lens does a good job considering it is relatively inexpensive.  The need for a belt drive is also a drawback, as rotating the sensor requires detaching the belt and loosening the tube rings to rotate the lens.  I think the solution will be to mark the CFZ with a piece of tape and rotate the lens to the desired position before attaching the belt drive.  Unfortunately this will mean attaching the belt in the field rather than indoors.
