Description

Carina Nebula (NGC 3372) taken under the Full Moon using a IDAS NBZ filter.

I must say, I really like the results!

The image is only lightly processed - deconvolution, some linear noise reduction, histogram transformation and curves adjustments.

Title: Starless version

Description: Testing the new version of Starnet, I processed again this image. I must say, the results are indeed impressive!

Description: Okay, I swear, this is the final revision - for now.
Actually, this is basically the starless version with the stars in it, along with some minor star reduction. The most awesome thing is that I cannot discern any star artifact at all - cheers to the developer of Starnet, Nikita. You deserve all the praise for the absolutely fenomenal tool you made!

Description: I again revised this image. The objetctive was to add more color variety to it. As I used a Dual NB filter, this is neither a true color nor a true HOO pallete. I tried, through processing, approximate it to a natural-faux HOO color balance, by injecting a little Ha into the Blue (OIII) to simulate the Hb emission. Some color masking and curves later, and there's a lot more blue/purple in the central zone where there's supposed to be more Oxigen. Finally, I made deconvolution work better, with a huge improvement in sharpness as a result.

Title: Revision 19-07-2022

Description: Again, a new revision. I was never quite satisfied with the previous revision. Although it was an improvement over the first ones, the Ha regions ended up too pink, the core was washed out, and the stars were terrible. For this one, I revised from the start. I aimed for a faux-HOO pallete, which was pretty hard to get. I think the colors are alright, and the core has more depth now, though the hue is still not 100% perfect. One big improvement in this image is the stars - they now have color and are better integrated with the base image.

Description: This is the third revision today - I do think this is the final one though. Who would've thought that processing an image with this kind of dynamic range would be so difficult? For the final revision, I also used the HDRMultiscaleTransform, which worked WONDERS for the core.
