Description

Messier 1, the Crab Nebula, is the remnant of the supernova SN1054. This was one of a handful of historically recorded Milky Way supernovae, most famously by Chinese astronomers during the Song Dynasty. It continues to measurably expand with time at about 1500 km/s. At its center is a rapidly rotating (period ~ 30 msec) pulsar with pulses visible in X-ray, optical, infrared, and radio.

I've combined recently acquired HOO data with some older LRGB data to improve the stars and some of the diffuse emission. Unfortunately the older data were at a different image scale (0.3" vs. 0.45") and a significant angle with respect to the newer data. Also, the older flats weren't so good. So this is a work in progress while I get better LRGB data.
