Description

This object is an almost edge-on barred spiral galaxy located "only" 30 million light years away in the constellation of Andromeda at a declination of +41 degrees. Its apparent size to us of 10 arc-minutes corresponds to a medium-sized galaxy diameter of 90,000 light years.

Although the structure is hard to see because of our view perspective, the galaxy is clearly not symmetric and looks to have had gravitational interaction with another galaxy in the past. Several interesting blue blobs, either clusters or satellite dwarf galaxies, appear in the arms.

I like how several bright orange foreground Milky Way stars surround and highlight the galaxy, like paparazzi flash bulbs going off on a celebrity red carpet.
