Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is an anemic Seyfert spiral galaxy located 400 million light years away in the constellation of Pisces at a declination of 0 degrees.  It is a magnitude 17 galaxy which spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a large diameter of 200,000 light years.

The inner disk is bright with 2 distinct arms.  The brightness quickly drops off in the outer disk, where the arms are seen to continue faintly.

This is the only anemic Seyfert galaxy that I am aware of, although I am sure that there are many more like it somewhere.   Anemic means that star production has stopped in the low brightness outer disk, while Seyfert means that the core has an unusually high surface brightness.

Several interesting small galaxies are seen in the background.  The galaxy at top right, LEDA 135885, is the same distance as NGC 7589 and could be a companion.
