Description

I was inspired by the image of Vadim Kozatchenko and his discussion of the inner spiral of M31.

Along the lines of what he suggested I simply subtracted my red channel from my HII. Low and behold this strange structure appeared. To me it looks almost orthogonal to the plane of the galaxy. Turns out it is well known of course (discovered in 1985 from what I can tell).

I'm not impressed at the quality of my image but I'm amazed I can see this structure at all (which was completely invisible in my original image https://www.astrobin.com/5u10ij/?nc=user). There is so much detail lurking in our narrow band images!
