Description

A composite of RGB frames (1x1 binning) added to my luminance frames from 4 April, and processed as L + synthetic L from RGB in Startools. Conditions limited exposures to 120s and Astrometric solving failed in ASTAP due to a lack of stars. As the L and RGB frames were taken at different focal lengths, I resorted to aligning, scaling and stacking in Nebulosity. As a result of messing with spacers, my F6.3 reducer flattener was not optimised and my flat fields were terrible, resulting in artifacts, gradients and vignetting.

Nevertheless when compared with my image taken on 4 April much more flocculation is visible, although I had to suppress the background to remove noise and gradients. Note to self, I need to work out the optimum back space for my focal reducers, collect more RGB frames to drive down the noise, and produce better flat frames. Longer exposures would allow me to go deeper and record sufficient stars for astrometric solving and better alignment in ASTAP.
