Description

This object, discovered by Xavier Strottner and Marcel Drechsler in 2021, is a probable supernova remnant in the constellation Orion with a diameter of about 18 arc minutes.

A spectroscopic examination by Lionel Mulato from France revealed large amounts of ionised hydrogen (H-alpha), ionised sulphur (SII) and small amounts of ionised oxygen (OIII).
Both the conspicuous structure, the chemical fingerprint and the signal in the ultraviolet range suggest the nature of a supernova remnant.

The photo is a false colour image with over 87 hours of total exposure, where H-alpha appears in red, SII in yellow and OIII in blue.

Data acquisition: Ola Skarpen-SkyEyE Observatory
Image processing: Marcel Drechsler

StDr object 31 has never been photographed before.
