Description

On October 6, 1995, the first planet outside the solar system was discovered in the star Helvetios (51 Pegasi), which was baptized with the name of Dimidio. In fact, in 1992 from the Arecibo radio telescope, at least one planet had already been discovered orbiting a pulsar, but Dimidio was the first exoplanet found orbiting a sun-like star.

Helvetios is located about 50 light years from Earth, and is easy to locate in the constellation of Pegasus with a visual magnitude of 5.49. In the image, obtained on September 3, 2019 from the La Laguna Astronomical Observatory (OLA), 51 Pegasi is seen centered with a clearly bluish color.
