Description

NGC7822 "Monster" Nebula

The NGC7822 complex includes emission nebula, a star cluster, and a star-forming region. It is 2900 light-years from Earth and stretches 75 light-years across. NGC7822 originally referred to just the wispy nebula at the top. The bright nebula "monster" face at the bottom is Sh2-171, also designated CED 214, and sports dark clouds and star-forming pillars. Berkeley 59 is a small young star cluster above the left eye of the monster. North is at the top.
