Description

This object is a galaxy located 75 million light years away in the constellation of Ursa Major at a declination of +72 degrees. This magnitude 10.6 galaxy spans 3.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 75,000 light years.

We are looking at this galaxy about halfway between face-on and edge-on. The structure is very interesting and reminiscent of other galaxies such as M63. The inner section is yellow, bright and surrounded by a ring of dust and stars. The mid-section disk is flocculent, with the arms being discontinuous star cluster sections. The outer disk has distinct graceful arm structures which end in a faint broad star stream.
