Description

Here we have a try at M94, a class (R)SA(r)ab, LINER galaxy locatedin Canes Venatici.  The galaxy lies about 16 million light years away and has a diameter of about 50,000 light years but the outer ring extends for another 30,000 light years or so.  The galaxy contains an estimated 40 billion stars. I shot this one with a Stellarvue 90mm APO that I have been using and with which I am quite impressed.  Of course this would have been a much better subject for the C9.25 which was out of commission for a short period of time.  But still, I think the small refractor with a 630mm focal length did a better than expected job of collecting the data.

In processing, I am still working on learning the best ways to use the GHS script and the Vicente Peris continuum subtraction routine.  Otherwise, I just wanted to try to let the faint outer ring show as much as possible.  Posted with a 2x downsample.

I hope you enjoy this one, Clear Skies and Good Health!
