Description

Sh2-119 is a vast emission nebula visible in the Swan constellation. Very close to the famous North America nebula and often forgot about because of its proximity to it. In the southern part (on the left) of the nebula, thin filaments and cocoons of dark nebulae are visible, which contrast strongly with the nebula and the star field.

This nebula looks very interesting with its "misty" clouds of gas that appear to flow either in or our of the central OIII core. This was an interesting image to process. The OIII signal was nearly non-existent in individual subs. Only when stacked did the faint central mist of OIII become apparent. The Ha data had a nice variety of sharp features and a nice misty look to it. The dark voids were very prominent in the stacked file, they must be very opaque and thick to block out everything behind them.

After countless revision uploads in this target I settled on a higher contrast and pushed the luminosity to give the image an ominous look. I though it went well with the interesting and complex gas structures.

Thank for looking!

Dan.
