Description

Located 25 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major, this magnificent galaxy, with its vast regions of bright nebulosity, is roughly twice the diameter of our own Milky Way and is estimated to contain one trillion stars.

We are star dust.⁣

⁣This image was created with data captured across 7 nights from April to May, 2022 using a 120mm diameter refractor telescope and a cooled, monochrome camera with broadband and narrowband filters.⁣

I consider this image to be one of the worst I have captured in the last two years. I made the mistake of having my field flattener backspacing off by 20mm and I didn’t realize it until I began to process the data! Each RGB filter ended up being effected slightly differently which resulted in the stars having colour shift after channel combination. This could not be resolved no matter how I tried to align or correct for any distortion. Lesson learned! 🥳
