Description

Mars at dawn on 28 Feb 2020 AEST, first light this season.

Got up shortly before 5am and was greeted by light wind and cool conditions. Immediately I slew to dim Mars having the rig already set up and aligned the night before. I have decided to oversample and imaged 5 second disk at F30 for two hours. The seeing improved as the planet rose but transparency remained variable with high level wispy cirrus around. Overall conditions were fair at best.

Despite derotating four 240 second stacks detail remains elusive in this view of Mars' volcano hemisphere. There's some structure in dark Mare Sirenum and South Polar Cap is nearly at its maximum (peak of southern winter). Tharsis ridge and Olympus Mons are not noticeable which I now think is partly due to my FireCapture settings (slightly underexposed video), had better luck couple of days later after fine tuning exposure and gain.
