Description

The only reason I took this image was to capture the partial penumbral lunar eclipse. I took a number of images throughout the event for some twenty minutes before and after the peak. This image is at the peak (12:29am EST).

There is evidently darkening along the top, making for instance the rayed crater Anaxagoras dimmer than it should be. At least, that is what experienced lunar observers have told me.

Personally, I couldn't tell that anything was happening. I lost sleep over this? On the plus side, I did get a nice image of the totally full moon I wouldn't normally have bothered doing.

Prime focus with an exposure of 1/400th of a second at ISO 100. The Meade MTS-SN6 is a 6-inch f/5 Schmidt-Newtonian telescope from the 1980's.
