Description

This is an LRGB composite image of Mars, obtained on 4 November 2020. Seeing was quite good. I used a Baader R+IR high-pass filter to create the L channel. Mars was roughly 55 degrees above the horizon when I captured this data.

Mars has proven to be a challenging target. This time around, I made some refinements based on advice from an experienced planetary/lunar imager on this forum (thank you MAILLARD!) This certainly helped to improve my image, though I think additional refinements are quite possible. For example, I used the same gain setting that I use for DSO's (170) here. However, since less dynamic range is needed for planetary images, there is probably not be a significant disadvantage to increasing this. As always stacking more frames would help too, of course.
