Description

M81 Bodes Galaxy.

One of our nearest galaxy neighbours M81 bodes galaxy. Only about 12 million light years away. At 70 thousand light years across It’s about half the size of our Milky Way yet estimated to significant heavier at about 250 billion suns.

Taken from my back garden with a celestron edge HD although visible with a pair of binoculars.

It’s really hard to get an image as the supermassive black hole at the centre has formed an intense bright core of stars. Hard to capture that and the arms of the galaxy.
