Description

This is another cropped view near the heart of the Rosette from a wider field image that is my first attempt at SHO. I learned something in the process of adding each individual filter's data one at a time. When I finally added the ionized Sulphur data, some of the detail in the pillars and Bok globules was lost! From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I didn't like this.

Perhaps the reason for this is that ionized Sulphur emits wavelengths in the deep red part of the spectrum, beyond even H alpha. Mapping it in to the Hα/OIII data, (which I did prior to gathering the SII ), tended to add an overall backlit effect, silhouetting the largely Hα/OIII pillars and globules. (This is just a guess based on the net effect it had on the image.)

What I did to correct the image visually, was to allow the Hα/OIII to have more prominence. While less scientifically accurate, I am happier aesthetically speaking since it brought back detail in the pillars and globs which is focal point of the image.
