Description

This object is a dark nebula feature located in the constellation of Cygnus at a declination of +45 degrees.

As documented by Sue French, the name is from a 1927 Popular Astronomy magazine article entitled "A Ring Nebula (Dark) in Cygnus". This object is in the northern part of the North American Nebula. A quote from her - "I count 27 stellar "eggs" filling the interior of the nest. In my 15 inch Newtonian reflector, the center of the nest is crowded with stars." The object is a 23 arc-minute oval ring running from bottom left to upper right, surrounding the star cluster NGC 6996. The dark nebula Barnard 353 is on the left side of the "nest".
