Description

Messier 17 (M17) or more commonly known as the Swan Nebula/Omega Nebula is a vast interstellar cloud of dust and gas giving birth to young hot stars around 5 to 6,000 light-years from Earth spanning some 15 light-years in diameter. The open cluster NGC 6618 lies embedded in the nebulosity and causes the gases of the nebula to glow due to radiation from the hot young stars.
