Description

I had promised myself I was gonna do a complete Pixinsight processing of my next image using @Adam Block's Fundamentals course content, but old (Photoshop) habits die very hard for me.

This is no fault of Adam's. His courses are extremely thorough and  I now have a pretty strong grasp over how PI works and the root of its capabilities. In fact, in this image I used Weighted Batch PreProcessing, Star Alignment, Image Integration, Normalize Scale Gradient, Dynamic Background Extraction, Photometric Color Calibration, Subtractive Chromatic Noise Reduction, Starnet++2 and StarXterminator, (blended for an optimal starless image), Screen Transfer Function, (of course), Histogram Transformation, (and more...), to get to a point where I shifted to the more-familiar-to-me Photoshop to finish up.

I am slowly adding steps under Adam's tutelage and eventually I'll get to where I can do a complete process in PI.

Let this be a lesson to you! Don't start with another processing tool! Start with Pixinsight and Adam's tutorials!

I may revisit this over the coming Moon filled nights and try to push forward with more steps in PI. I have been playing with the Star De-emphasizer script and I think there is a way to do some of what I have been doing in PS using the GAME Script and Pixelmath...

Another note about this image. I was struggling with a bit of flexure that was affecting my collimation depending upon pointing position with my Quattro 250P. I think it is the secondary spider very slightly twisting at lower altitudes in certain directions. To date I had shot objects that were mostly overhead, and NGC 1788 is a bit lower and more southerly than those objects. I am going to try to tension the spider a bit more, but if anyone has any advice regarding a stiffer secondary spider that they know to be compatible with the Quattro, or if anyone has any other advice regarding this issue, please let me know.
