20210824 - Moon 97%(-) East Edge - That’s one small step ….

=14pxWhat was the experienceThese last couple of months have been  nail-biting. Although I’m having a decent go at nebulae and galaxies, I wasn’t able to do any decent processing for moon surfaces 🌙 or planets 🪐 None of that software runs on 🍏Mac. And with all these brilliant images of Jupiter and Saturn floating by, it just breaks my heart ❤️‍🩹

I did a couple, of try-outs with the moon, my first lucky imaging. Capturing and processing a moon disk was feasible enough, but that workflow wasn’t the road to nirvana, definitely not for surface imaging, or planets

Two months ago, while imaging nebula, I also took a couple of video’s of the moon. Used ASICAP (equivalent of sharpcap) as opposed to the native ASIAIR video (which is limited to RAW8 - for which there is no soft on Mac to process this), and stored that away … not knowing when or how I would get around to process these

Knowing you need to image video for the moon and planetary, it gives a very strange feeling that you’re trying to capture something for which you don’t have the software or skills to process the data …. yet … Up until now.

Finally I’ve found a Windows/🍏Mac emulator that works, and after quickly installing AutoStakkert, I run the first video through it …. First experience: processing planetary is different, but it works. For now, that’s all that matters

This is a new step, that opens up a lot of potential for me, finally knowing that I can go out to chase the moon and planets, and will be able to process them. This first ‘real’ moon image isn’t perfect, it’s rather low-res, slight mineral processing to make it more appealing, but it’s the step that it represents for me that matters ... first time native planetary video, first time real planetary processing, first time planetary software (emulating on Mac)

Moon 🌙 , planets 🪐 … here I come 🤩
