Description

This barred galaxy, best seen from the southern hemisphere, is estimated to be 56 million light years away. I am presenting two versions of this image, a crop of one corner of the full field of view that allows the viewer to focus on the detail in NGC 1365 and also the full field that includes part of the Fornax galaxy cluster. In addition to the larger galaxies in the Fornax cluster, such as NGC 1404, NGC 1399, NGC 1389, NGC 1387, NGC 1386, NGC 1381, NGC 1379 and NGC 1365, scrolling around the full resolution image you will find countless faint and tiny galaxies of many different types. I have been able to identify some down to magnitude 18+ in a short comparison to my planetarium software.
