Description

A really cool reflection nebula, M78, and nearby Barnard's Loop!

I've tried to image this area a few other times, but with yucky results. It would be better done at a dark sky site, but that's a bit harder to do in the winter! M78 is a reflection nebula just above and to the east of the famous Orion Nebula; you can see clouds of gas reflecting starlight enshrouded in dark nebulae. The red nebula on the lower left is part of the enormous Barnard's Loop, a long chain of red-glowing hydrogen gas. M78 is part of the larger Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, and lies about 1,350 lightyears from Earth.

This dataset combines images from both my ZWO ASI294MC Pro with the Astronomik CLS-CCD filter and my new ZWO ASI2600MC Pro with the Optolong L-Pro.
