Description

The Swan or Omega Nebula is the last of the "Magnificent Four" of the MW for us who live in the Northern hemisphere. I always thought that M17 resembles way more an eagle than a swan but maybe I am biased being an imager and all. This also the last of the "eye candies" shots from Sardinia. While I did capture few more of the southern objects this was part of the minimum target I set to myself. And I should be eternally grateful to my wife and kids who had to put up with living in uncomfortable places only because they were soooo darn dark.

The H-alpha portion of the image was instead acquired whilst living in Volpiano, a small town outside Turin in Northern Italy. In this case I used the M809 instead, obviously. So the final composite is a blend of two scopes and two completely different locations; one sub-urban and the other as dark as you can get at sea level.

As a consequence of all this mixing-and-matching the view is a bit cramped, which is a pity, but there your are, it can't be helped.
