I just released new code on AstroBin that lets you customize the thumbnails in your gallery.|
When you upload a new image, that's now the first step. Simply click and drag across the image on the thumbnail editing page.
You can also change thumbnails of older images, using the Edit menu.
It works for revisions too, by clicking the "edit" icon on the thumbnail of a revision.
Please report any problems you might encounter with this new feature, and enjoy!

|So I have tried it out on my old images, and it is only working on the original uploaded image, and not revisions at the moment. If I edit a thumbnail it will not show in the gallery with the revision set as final, but if I mark the original to Final it will change in the gallery.|

Tried it too. same remark on thé final release. Thanks for this feature.|

|Ah so I missed the part about using the edit icon to change it on revisions! Seems to work perfectly now!|

So I'm back, with a real problem this time. A couple of my images that I changed thumbnails on have "broke"- there is just black space now in a good part of them. I tried reloading, redoing thumbnail, and in different browsers just to check. See these (but several others did this too):|

|Great feature for when the default algorithm doesn't quite center the object of interest. Thanks!|

Same with me. It would be great if the feature would also work with the revisions. Apart from that I haven't seen any problems.

|I never realised how much I wanted this feature until it was implemented.|
# 08 Jan, 2020 11:33
|Really good and easy to use, thanks Salvatore!|

It's working great on images that only have one version, but not working on images with multiple revisions.

|Love this! Thank you! It appears there is a minimum dimension for the thumbnails? I can’t seem to make my owl nebula thumbnail small enough…after saving, it seems to crop larger than I expected.|
# 08 Jan, 2020 15:09
|There isn't a minimum, but if you go below 130x130 the box becomes red as a warning. You will lose definition if your thumbnail is smaller than 130x130, because then it gets enlarged to 130x130 in your gallery.|
# 08 Jan, 2020 15:10
|I just tried your Owl and it worked fine.|
# 08 Jan, 2020 15:32
That’s great to know! Thank you!
Also, I misspoke about the owl nebula picture. It was actually the Rung Nebula that I was having issues with. Still can’t get it to crop down for the thumbnail.

|You need to do it on the Final revision. If you use the Edit menu, that refers to the originally uploaded image. Check the pencil icon when you hover on your revision marked as Final.|

Gosh, I feel silly now. Thank you!
# 08 Jan, 2020 16:10
|Oh! Now I get it. Thank you for the clarification!!|
# 08 Jan, 2020 16:43
Hi Salvatore, it is a very nice feature, thank you! However I have an image for which the thumbnail is not working, I don't understand why|
I set a reduced thumbnail for the following pic to have the veil in the center, but it always show on the left-hand side. With the other pictures it works fine but with this no.

One more thing - I just updated a thumbnail for one of my images and it seemed to have somehow corrupted it. It works when moused-over, but the bottom half is otherwise black: https://www.astrobin.com/407870/B/
# 08 Jan, 2020 16:57
That's working xD No issues anymore!
# 08 Jan, 2020 17:17
|Similarly, the thumbnail for revision W has the same error on this page: https://www.astrobin.com/338207/W/ - the bottom half is cut off. That's the only place it's getting cut off though - it looks fine on my main page. Flagging malfunctioning thumbnails didn't work, nor did re-editing the thumbnail. I think I'm going to stop altering these for now.|
# 08 Jan, 2020 18:11
|Looks like a serious bug, I will investigate ASAP.|
# 08 Jan, 2020 19:06
Chris, did you do something to fix it? Revision W looks fine now.|
Edit: same for https://www.astrobin.com/407870/B/

They still don't look right to me.|
Only the thumbnail for revision W here:
