NEW: "Remote source" field for your images acquired at your own remote observatory or hosting facility

I have added a new field to the basic information of the images. It's called Remote source and it has a list of known remote observatory facilities.

If you took an image remotely, chances are you used one of those services, either in the case you own a setup that is hosted there, or you downloaded data from a system you do not own.

I included the names of the remote hosting facilities that I could find via Google search, so if I neglected some, please let me know and I will add them!

Additionally, since we all care about data here, I have added some email notification reminders if some of your images lack the "Data source" or "Remote source" (if appropriate) information. You will get them respectively once a month and once a week, if you have images lacking those pieces of information.

The emails contain direct links to the edit page of your images, so it's as easy as it gets with AstroBin currently lacking a bulk edit feature.

As always, if you find these emails annoying, you can disable there at https://www.astrobin.com/notifications/settings/

Hi Salvatore,

Great idea ! smile

Just tried to precise that point on my last image (posted today), but can't find the remote facility "Chilescope".

Good idea, Salvatore. I saw that you have added the "remote source" information to my only remote picture. The facility of Martin Pugh, designated speaker of the CEDIC 2019 conference, who provided the raw data, is not on your list. I have looked for it, but I guess Martin did not give a name to his telescope hosting site  in New South Wales, Australia.

Hi Juergen,
I have listed "Heaven's Mirror Observatory" which I believe is the hosting offered by Martin Pugh. Is there another one by a different name that I should add?

Thanks Salvatore!  I’ve got mine all updated now.

One more search filter request: could you add a filters for IOTD, Top pick, and maybe Top 100?

What if someone owns their own private "remote observatory"?  Should this option be added to the drop down list?
I have a private, built with my own hands, observatory that I travel to and get my data.  How best should I classify this?
                                              Thanks

I can add IOTD and Top Picks, sure! Top100 is a bit too heavy, computationally, so I will not include it at this time.

This point was brought to my attention today, and it's a fair one. I will add an entry at the top that says "Private independent facility".

Hi Salvatore,
Frankly speaking, I didn't know the name of the observatory. I am not a regular user of Martin's facility, just downloaded the public dataset as a trial. For what I have read today, you might be correct with your assumption about the name.

Mine are all done, but despite the direct links it still took me several hours to update 5 years of back images merely to state that they were almost exclusively from my 'backyard'. If you ever add features like this in future and want folks to retro update their images, then I do think a bulk update feature would make this a more acceptable way of doing things.

yes I totally know that. I will try to figure something out at some point.

I've hard to classify my images in field "Data source" taken from "rent-a-scope-for-time" systems as iTelescope. These are "own remote observatory" or " amateur hosting facility"?
I think none of both.

It's Amateur hosting facility, as it falls under the "Downloaded" category.

cordialmente    c.colombo

hbastro 374The "Non commercial independent" field entry was not retained on any of the images I updated. Seems the "Traveler" Option is not retained for my images either.
