I agree

If I move them to the staging area, but does the staging area count towards you average as well?
No, images in the staging areas are not considered for the calculation of the index. So technically if you move them there, your index will go up.

I moved a few images to the staging area which had 0 - 3 likes on them and (some were pretty rubbish anyway) from 8 years ago.

Interestingly before I could do that some of those old images started getting likes so this thread must have made a few people take a look at my old images so they will be staying in the gallery.

My Astrobin index went up by about 2 whole points during the process, but at least these few old/poor images won't be dragging my average down any more now I understand a bit more how it works.

Hi Carole,
following this thread I took a look on your "old" images, in my opinion they are not poor :-)

Lol, I found a new way to ruin a score: add a new version of an image! Try it out, it works! smilesmilesmile

Does this make sense? No, it doesn't, does it? smile

As nobody else than the account owner can see the score anyway and it only confuses me I decided to ignore it. Can I turn it off or hide it?

I'm happy to share images from our beautiful night sky with others and I'm happy for those images they want to share with me. I consider every like I get and give as a compliment. So, do I need a score for that? Nope smile

Let's enjoy the night sky as long as we have one! It won't be there forever, satellites will ruin it soon for the goal of some milliseconds advantage in high speed stock exchange….. what a shame! smile  With or without score… smile

Clear skies!

Yes you can 😊
Goto My settings / Preferences  and Check the box : I want to be excluded from competitions
"Check this box to be excluded from competitions and contests, such as the Image of the Day, the Top Picks, other custom contests. This will remove you from the leaderboards and hide your AstroBin Index."

Thanks but were the images I referred to still there as I moved the lowest ones to the staging area.

No need to go into extreme measures. If the Index bothers you, ignore it. Just don't be a bean counter. Enjoy the hobby! smile
