To make things a bit clearer and easier to manage, the following changes have now landed to all your galleries:|
contact form or post in the forums.
# 14 Mar, 2020 19:51
PS: I hope you like the icon for the "Corrupted" menu item!|
# 14 Mar, 2020 19:59
Hi Salvatore, after this update I no longer can see many of my already restored images, nor I can see any of the "corrupted" images that were still awaiting restoration..|
Please check this issue.
# 14 Mar, 2020 20:08
I lost my "Blue Helmet", completely. It was last post. It's not in the Corrupted section either…|
And it's very hard to discern what to restore from that section, since each revision is posted there as a different image altogether.
Sorry but this made things worse. : (
# 14 Mar, 2020 20:09
do you mean this one? https://www.astrobin.com/ml8x6y/?nc=user
I see it in your gallery.
# 14 Mar, 2020 20:11
|No no, it was a new image posted a few days after that one. It was the first one I restored after the crash.|
# 14 Mar, 2020 20:15
Ok, it's weird. But since it was a Top Pick I still can see it in the Top Picks section, but not in my gallery|
# 14 Mar, 2020 20:17
|I know there are also other images missing, but I can't remember which ones…|
# 14 Mar, 2020 20:22
|Okay you're right. The database query to get the public images, which I just changed, must be wrong. No big deal, I'll fix it now.|
# 14 Mar, 2020 20:25
|Awesome! Thanks. Sorry for the bad vibe|
# 14 Mar, 2020 20:27
Thanks Salvatore - I have re-uploaded about one-third of my images (I lost everything) to date. Looking now, I have lost all the empty references to the two-thirds not yet uploaded .|
I presume your query fix will revert the situation?
# 14 Mar, 2020 20:32
Yes, I only need 5 minutes. I should stop touching the website for a while, as we're all so edgy There's no way anything else gets deleted again, the way things are set up now!
# 14 Mar, 2020 20:33
|- you have nothing but my admiration for your attitude to the data loss. Keep up the good work Salvatore!|
# 14 Mar, 2020 20:35
|Thanks Barry I'm the first one who's on edge all the time, these days. Truth be told I need a bit of a break, but as you can see I'm still dealing with the ramifications of the incident (edge cases).|
# 14 Mar, 2020 20:41
Salvatore IoveneI apologize again for my reaction Salvatore. When the Big Crash happen I was among the ones that lost their complete gallery. And I'm still in the process of restoring it. This time around I thought lost them irrecoverably. it's the Corona effect. ; )
Great to know all the images are safe now. Grazie per Astrobin!.

I had an "edge case" at my work one year ago when a power cut arising from an electrical storm disturbed all of our servers (real and virtual) during an update with multiple power cuts completely neutralising our UPS clusters and datto drives. Completely lost our commercial databases and accounting system. My FD (I am MD/CEO) took 3 weeks of hard work and a specialist data recovery team to get the data back. So I have some tiny inkling of your strain and the hard work needed by yourself.
And you do all of this in your spare time. A very understanding family . . .

Diego GravineseNo problem, perfectly understandable! Stay inside! Here in Switzerland we're getting the same measures as you've taken in Italy…
Barry WilsonOuch! Well at least we're not coronavirus patient zero! Or the guy on CloudyNights who many years ago accidentally sent missiles towards Russia due to a programming error…
Barry WilsonIt's been a hard month. When I can lay low for a week I need to make it up to my kids.
# 14 Mar, 2020 21:03
|PS: the query was fixed.|
# 14 Mar, 2020 21:15
Sorry to report, not for me.|
My pages do not display the as yet not uploaded images.
will the query reversion take time to cascade throughout the database?
# 14 Mar, 2020 21:17
No, there's only a small window when the previous software runs at the same time as the new software, but now the updated software is the only one running.
Do you know what is missing exactly?
# 14 Mar, 2020 21:24
About 150 or so images and my details entires for each I’m afraid. I no longer see the egg timer and image title for the lost images. My pages state 82 images, the Trending Astrophotographers pages For All Time state 227 images; thus I can no longer see 145 egg timers.|
Will complete removal of this recent refinement re-establish these old image uploads?
I can’t be the only person who has not yet completed uploading their lost data, can I? There must be others who have experienced the same result as me from the new query, surely?
# 14 Mar, 2020 21:34
|Your egg timers are in the new section called "Corrupted". Have another look at the top post in this thread!|
# 14 Mar, 2020 21:37
Yes. Mine is displaying all restored images again. Thanks!
Will need to investigate the new "Corrupted" section to see how to restore the rest (since all the Staging images are now mixed there with the still missing 'Public' ones, except now those are individually separated in each version. But I'll figure it out.)
# 14 Mar, 2020 21:45
ok, got it.
thank you 👍
# 14 Mar, 2020 22:11
I'm not sure what you just did, but I just lost around 25 images that probably had a corrupted draft and am having trouble finding them in this "Corrupted" location. My Bubble in HSO, my bicolor Soul, my Elephant Trunk, my Dumbbell Nebula, bicolor Rosette, SH2-224, both Orion images, Iris… I had restored the final drafts on all of them and none of these images seem to be anywhere anymore (they are NOT in the Corrupted section). I don't even know what I lost now.
Edit: Here's an example of an image that should be on my wall (I was able to find an old link to it): https://www.astrobin.com/300879/
It's not in my staging area, it's not under Corrupted and it's not on my wall. :/
