Advanced Gear Details

Hi,

I think it would be helpful to have the option to explicitely add the focal length and the f number instead of / additionally to the imaging optics. Sometimes the gear is not clearly defined by the user or it's difficult to find out more details about it.

What's your opinion? Any similar request? Do others need such features?

I second to this.  It will be very nice if there is a way to specify the focal length and F stop of the lens.  In the current setting, I can tell people that I used a 28-70mm/F2.8 lens.  But I will have to write in the description part to tell people whether the lens is used at 28mm or 70mm or 35mm or whatever, and the aperture the lens is stopped to.

Thank you! That's exactly what I meant!

Further feature requests from my side are:
  • a global gear database where you can select your gear from. It's always disappointing if you would like to find more users using some certain gear, and each owner chooses a different name for the same gear. So they never match each other and astrobin cannot assign them to the same gear.
  • the gear database could be fed with detailed descriptions and photos of the gear devices.
  • I like the focus of dso-brower.com on the cross-linking to other images of the same region and to local observation ressources

i think the global gear database is a great idea, especially for popular and common items.  it would just make searching a lot easier.
