I guess I'm having an issue similar to the one discussed here: https://www.astrobin.com/forum/c/astrobin/forum-feedback/my-index-went-from-44-to-zero/
I'm new here, I uploaded my first image and saw the index go up. But now it's back to zero. Can it be fixed?

|Every time one of your images is saved in the database, or your user profile is saved, the index is recalculated. Saving an image also happens when you get a like. So it will likely be recalculated soon. You can force a recalculation by editing your profile and saving the form without making changes.|

My index is going backwards. IN the last 12 hours I have uploaded 2 new images and got a total of 117 likes so far.|
I noticed it was going backwards last night, so I made a note of the index which was 149.62 - after a load more likes it is now 149.33.
What's going on?
I have read your reply above Salvatore, but I don't understand how to do this. Where is my profile?

People, I don't know how many times I have to explain it. Sorry Carole, this is not a direct jab at you, but I get Index questions on a weekly basis. The Index is designed so it can go down. It will for a number of reasons. For instance a user who liked a bunch of your images deleted their account. Or you get a bunch of Likes on a new image, but not enough, so that actually makes the index go down.|
The only issue that there is with the index, is that sometimes it gets calculated to 0, but then it comes back to normal after the next recalculation.
To force a recalculation, go to your settings (User menu, top-right of every page -> My settings), and click the Save button.

OK, I can understand how when some-one deletes their account it would go down, but I don't understand this one.
Salvatore Iovene. Surely every "like" should make it go up, even if you need say about 10 likes for every digit.

I don't see why that should be the case. If you post an image that is not as well received as others, you begin to "trend down" in terms of how you are doing in the community relative to how you were once doing. I like the way it is currently, it's a bit dynamic, rather than just a constant climb by posting image after image.

It's not trending though. that's a separate thing.|
Well it seems to me that Salvatore would be wise to write an explanatory page on the website, so every-one can understand how it works and what it means - perhaps then he wouldn't keep getting asked the same questions.
