Ive noticed over the past few days that the search function is not working properly on the site. For example I just searched "M97" three times. The first two searches showed "No Results, Sorry", the third attempt worked and displayed posted images of M97.|
This is occurring quite often though. Just a heads up…..

|Must be the only person experiencing this issue, it's becoming very annoying. I'm having to search two and three times for any keyword to display results.|

Hello you are not alone I have this issue too|

|Yes, I can confirm a problem. It seems to be a bug or limitation in one or more of AstroBin dependency components. I will take a look.|

|Salvatore, is the search module a 3rd party script / plugin, or was this also developed by you? Also I notice the source for the Astrobin's architecture, is this open source, to be modified and used on commercial domains?|

the search engine is Elasticsearch, and is accessed by AstroBin via the Haystack layer.
Yes, AstroBin is open source and licensed under AGPL. You are free to replicate it in a commercial environment, but every modifications to the source code must be publicly available.

I have the same problem…sometimes the search or sort functions simply yield no results (as per Jer Hetrick picture)..By repeating the search I get eventually the results page

I have the same problem. Sometimes it will find page 1, but if I try to go to page 2, I get a no results page come up.|

|Still having this issue. If you refresh multiple times it eventually does return search results successfully. But then when you try to go to the next page you get a 404 error. This has been an issue for some time now and it is a major feature. PLEASE fix this, it is driving us all NUTS!|

|"the search engine is Elasticsearch" - I am intimately familiar with AWS and I am happy to help you fix this. Are you hitting AWS API limits because of the large number of requests?|

|The search problem seems to be solved. The issue was that the Elasticsearch "index.max_result_window" was too small. I bumped it up to an acceptable level, and while that's not the ideal solution for performance, it seems to be fast enough. Unfortunately the library that AstroBin uses to interface to Elasticsearch (django-haystack) does not support Elasticsearch pagination. But anyway, seems to be good for now even with a large max_result_window size (currently set at 500,000).|

The search function is broken… again. Searches just return "No results. Sorry.". Why does this feature seem to suffer the most with every release?|
TEST AND VALIDATE - Unit tests are NOT sufficient!
I am happy to volunteer my time to create a set of test cases and manually verify functionality on a TEST environment before releases go live.

|I can confirm that the seach is somewhat broken at the moment. I've noticed that if click on the name of an object (ex. NGC 7023) , only the most recent images appear.|

as AstroBin moved to a new server, the whole index is regenerating, so it could be a while.
