SO will the IOTD banner now show only the IOTD - are runners up now not included?|
# 25 Sep, 2016 19:06
|Yeah, the previous stream wasn't not optimal at all,, because the same image would repeat over and over again if it had multiple actions on it (likes, bookrmarks, comments, revisions… but now this should really help with seeing fresh content all the time on the front page!|
# 25 Sep, 2016 19:08
Yes, runner-ups are gone from the front page. They can still be seen on the "Explore -> Image of the day" page, but I'm thinking about getting rid of them altogether.
Anyway, I'm hoping by new year that I can remove the IOTD completely, and have an automatically generated selection of daily images with no winners, just the chance to be seen, and a new contests module for people interested in contests.
We've talked about this at large in the (now closed) IOTD thread and I think you and I privately in email :-)

Now a serious question: what do you think about adding a small "Like" button the the action boxes in the front page stream (when the action is about an image)?|
On one side it's cool to Like an image without opening the page, and this will incite more Likes. On the other hand, lots of people are already too Like-happy (like trigger-happy, get it? :-)) and this would kinda devaluate the Likes.
Not that it's a big deal tho…

Okay, I am not a fan of this as there is just too much going on there. I went into settings and changed my preference to personnel|
stream and nothing shows up. Maybe you could add icons to the new home page to select global, recent, or people you follow the same as before. One another thing that I have noticed recently is that the text does not wrap in posts and words get truncated quite a bit.
# 25 Sep, 2016 19:18
Salvatore IoveneI would say it is the choice of the user and if you make the site more accessible with such features that can only be a useful feature.
I like the concept of the
Salvatore Iovenethink we spoke about this previously seeing a trending image section would be great with more than just a few images - share the exposure among more imagers.
# 25 Sep, 2016 19:20
your Personal stream is empty because you don't follow any users.
# 25 Sep, 2016 19:22
Salvatore IoveneBut what about my recent activity? Just because I do not follow anyone it does not mean I do not like or comment on other images.
# 25 Sep, 2016 19:24
ScottSalvatore IoveneBut what about my recent activity? Just because I do not follow anyone it does not mean I do not like or comment on other images.
Then it's the same as before. You can set it on "Global stream" or simply "Recent uploads" to just see all recently upload pictures.
# 25 Sep, 2016 19:36
I look forward to that. Not that you need any suggestions here, but, it seems you could use a ranking algorythm that normalizes to followers and select from the highest rankings.|
You can adjust the constants, (k,l), to still give long standing supporters and consistantly outstanding imagers an advantage withoug disregarding newcomers who are posting outstanding work, seems in keeping with the direction you are taking this.

Where can I switch between global/recent ? I don't see it.
Can I set the preview thumbs to small again ? A preview with small thumbs is really great to get an overview in milliseconds, without any effort.
Also the stream stops after 1 iteration. So one cannot go back in history.
# 25 Sep, 2016 19:46
It's in your main settings. You can also click on the cog icon on the right end of the "Global stream" header bar.
Sorry, you can't do that. I found those too small, frankly.
The stream had to be started from scratch to accommodate the changes, so it's only a an hour old at this time but it's filling up quickly.
# 25 Sep, 2016 19:53
Great, found it
That's to bad. UI should not be a matter of one guy feelings. But maybe I'm that guy here :-)
Why don't you support a switchable version ? I really like to see all images. Without a proper overview I don't have time to do all the scrolling , waiting etc.
Salvatore Ioveneah understand , thanks
# 25 Sep, 2016 20:04
carl0sI'm not in support of the idea that everything should a switchable option, especially minute UI details! It's a very slippery slope that leads to ugly and unmaintainable UIs…
# 25 Sep, 2016 20:45
I see the , there is a difference in size of "global stream" and "all uploaded images" preview images.|
The thumbnails are big/small enough to grasp enough information. It fulfills the need for a quick overview. Thanks
Are the "global stream" images also called thumbnails ?
# 25 Sep, 2016 20:48
Yes, everything basically is a thumbnail generated from your full-size upload.
PS: I recognize that the current stream is perhaps a bit too busy and not very legible, so I'm currently improving it:
# 25 Sep, 2016 21:35
Salvatore IoveneNot a fan of this. Maybe i am missing the point. Normally i like to look at just recently uploaded images and then switch back to global stream - old style could do each with one mouse click. Now i need to make 2-3 each time. This seems to be a reduction in choice and options?
Am i misunderstanding ?
# 25 Sep, 2016 21:37
|I can add quick-switching back, I didn't think people would use for… quick switching :-)|
# 25 Sep, 2016 21:38
I do not sure about other but find it useful to look at the right content at the right time.|
I scan new images fairly frequently and use the streams less but they are a useful landing page. Paddy
# 25 Sep, 2016 21:58
Alright guys, I made it less busy and I added the Like buttons! Now I should go and buy a couple of servers to handle all the traffic from the avalanche of Likes that will be clicked :-)|
I'm toast for tonight, so I'll do the quick switches tomorrow.
# 25 Sep, 2016 22:00
|Cheers Salva - progress is all good. Any little issues will be worked out in due time|
# 25 Sep, 2016 22:06
Er is there a problem - if i go to an image I can not find the like button anymore?|
I can only like it from the stream - this cant be right.
# 25 Sep, 2016 22:07
|I see button for follow/stop following user and bookmark bit nothing for like.|

|Hi SalvatoreA quick-switching would be good. And a possibility to choose between former layout and new layout would be also good, because this new layout is an absolutely "no go" for me.regards johny|
