Hi Johny,
unfortunately there's always some people for whom "change is always bad, no matter what".

I find the new layout quite a substantial improvement!

Yeah good thing I did another round of quick testing before going to bed. I actually found the problem at the same time as you and was already fixing it as you reported it  smile

Hi Salvatore,

I think that I can live with the new UI once I am used to it. One thing i am really missing is a way to switch quicky between the different views: Global stream, personal stream and new pictures. I am one of those who switch very often.

Hi Fritz, good to hear. I'll be adding those quick switch buttons today!

I like the "likes" things and the larger images. It used to clutter the front page. This is much nicer. I am not sure about bigger IOTD and forums updates. I don't think it was necessary.

Are the "global stream" images also called thumbnails ?
Yes, everything basically is a thumbnail generated from your full-size upload.

PS: I recognize that the current stream is perhaps a bit too busy and not very legible, so I'm currently improving it:
  • Removing the tiny avatars for the "others"… who cares?
  • Decreasing some contrasts
  • Simplifying and unifying which information goes in the top or bottom headers
  • Adding a Like button (a very small one, just text) to each entry
Ok , I  understand. Good changes in the list. Thank you

I preferred when forum updated where of to the right as well.  Current location is just an obstruction to what i am on that page for smile

I just added the quick-switch buttons and made some improvements for mobile devices. Please note that if you want to change your preferred view permanently, you still need to do it in the settings (cog icon in the header, after the quick switches).

Think of it this way: you're sacrificing some space on top to have overall more space. Now the "latest from the forum" doesn't take valuable horizontal space, forcing the stream section to be narrower.

Thank you Salvatore! … I am starting to get used to the new UI. And liking it. smile

Yes fair enough - cheers for quick switch.

One thing that I just discovered, you can also "like" your own images.

Hi Orlando,
odd, I should receive emails from the server when that happens… Where can I contact you with a real time chat so I can send you to a version of the site with debugging enabled, so you can tell me the exact error message?

New feature! Now the Previous/Next navigation links (that are visible in the orange bar on top of the image page) have a navigation context.

Supported contexts at the moment are:
  • All public images by the user
  • All public images by the user, in one of his or her collections
  • All images in a public group
  • All IOTD winners
  • All public images on AstroBin
You can use the cog icon next to the < > buttons, but the context tries to be smart too.
  • When you click from the user gallery, it defaults to all public images by the user
  • When you click from a user collection, it defaults to all images in that collections
  • When you click from a group, it defaults to all images in that group
  • When you click from the IOTD on the front page or the IOTD archive, it defaults to all IOTD winners
  • When you click from a list of recent images, it defaults to all public images on AstroBin
  • When you click from the stream, it defaults to the public image by the user
You can always override using the cog menu, and your choice will be valid during the current session of navigating with the < and > buttons.

Let me know if you find any problems!  smile

New feature! Now you can have more control over notifications configuration.

You can specify, for each notification type, if you want it on-site and as an e-mail.

http://www.astrobin.com/notifications/settings/

You can access that page with the new "Settings" button on the notification list window (or "All notifications" page)

The setting about receiving e-mails for forum updates is now moved to the generic Preferences page.

Hope this helps!  smile

Unrelated, but I also added a small "Upload" button to the header bar, at the right end, for convenience.

New smaller update: now there's a default notification when another members starts a new forum topic in a group you are a member of. Of course it's configurable in the notification settings.

Hi Salvatore - can we get a send to forum from an image.  Can add via forum but can't see option when on an image.  Only a minor thing but seems logical.
Cheers
Paddy
